ISSUE 1 2026

LETTER FROM THE CEO

Dear Valued Member

We’re pleased to bring you the latest edition of WiseUp Botswana, your official Member newsletter.

Since our first issue, we’ve seen encouraging engagement from our Members across Botswana. More Members are reaching out for legal advice earlier, asking the right questions and making use of their benefits before situations escalate. That’s exactly what LegalWise is here for—to step in early, guide you and protect what matters most.

Behind the scenes, we’ve also continued to strengthen our service offering—expanding access to legal support, improving our digital platforms and ensuring that when our Members need help, they receive it quickly, professionally and with real results.

This edition builds on that momentum.

It shows not just what we offer—but what we actually do for our Members when it truly matters.

In this edition, you will discover:

  • Real Member Success Stories – including how we helped secure a P 1 million payout after a rejected claim
  • Membership Updates – important information about your premium and what it means for your cover
  • Know Your Rights – practical guidance to help you avoid costly mistakes
  • Digital Updates – easier, faster ways to access legal help
  • Everyday Legal Answers – clear responses to common legal questions

What you’ll see throughout this newsletter is simple:

When our Members face challenges, we don’t step back—we step in.

Because without the right legal support, many people are left feeling overwhelmed, uncertain and alone. They accept outcomes they shouldn’t have to accept. They lose money they shouldn’t have lost.

With LegalWise Botswana, that doesn’t have to happen.

We are here to stand with you, guide you and act for you—so that when life takes an unexpected turn, you have the confidence to say:

“DON’T TALK TO ME, TALK TO MY LAWYER.”

Thank you for being part of the LegalWise Botswana family. Your trust means everything to us.

Warm regards

Bilkiss Moorad

Real Member Stories – Real Results

From Rejected to Rewarded: P1 Million Paid to Our Member

When our Member’s disability claim was rejected, it could easily have been the end of the road.

Many people in that situation feel they have no choice but to accept the outcome—especially without legal support. But instead of walking away, our Member reached out to our team of legal professionals.

After being medically boarded, he submitted a disability claim to his insurer. The claim was declined on the basis that he was not considered permanently disabled. At the same time, he was dealing with serious health challenges and financial pressure.

This is where we stepped in.

Our Legal Counsellor carefully reviewed the policy and supporting medical evidence. In doing so, we identified clear grounds to challenge the insurer’s decision. A detailed submission was prepared, addressing the reasons for the rejection and demonstrating why the claim met the policy requirements.

The result?

P1,000,000 paid to our Member.

What started as a rejection became a life-changing outcome—at a time when it mattered most.

From Faulty Purchase to Full Refund: P 70,000 Recovered

Buying a car should be an exciting milestone. For our Member, however, it quickly became a stressful and costly experience.

On the very same day he purchased the vehicle, he discovered serious faults that had not been disclosed. When he attempted to cancel the agreement, the seller refused to cooperate and claimed the money had already been used.

Feeling stuck and unsure of what to do next, he turned to LegalWise legal team.

We reviewed the matter and engaged the seller directly. When cooperation was not forthcoming, we escalated the issue and issued a formal demand, clearly setting out the Member’s legal rights and the seller’s obligations.

That pressure made the difference.

The seller collected the vehicle and refunded the full P 70,000

Awarded but Unpaid: P 73,218.53 Secured

Our Member followed the correct legal process after being injured at work and was awarded compensation.

However, even after the award was issued, the employer failed to pay.

Delays like this can create unnecessary financial strain—especially when someone is already dealing with the impact of an injury.

We acted quickly.

After attempts to engage the employer proved unsuccessful, we issued a formal demand and made it clear that enforcement action would follow if payment was not made.

The result?

The full amount of P 73,218.53 was paid to our Member.

Why This Matters

Without legal support, many people are forced to accept unfair outcomes, walk away from valid claims or struggle to enforce their rights.

With LegalWise lawyers on your side, you don’t have to face that situation alone. We step in, we take action and we work towards the best possible outcome for you.

Know Your Rights: Buying a Vehicle “Voetstoots”

If you’ve ever been told that a vehicle is sold “voetstoots”, it’s important to understand what that really means before making a decision.

In simple terms, “voetstoots” means that you are buying the vehicle “as is”, including any visible or hidden defects. This places most of the risk on you as the buyer.

Once you’ve taken delivery, you generally cannot return the vehicle simply because problems appear later.

However, there are still important protections.

If the seller misled you, failed to disclose known defects or acted dishonestly, you may still have a valid legal claim.

To protect yourself, always take practical steps before buying:

  • Have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic
  • Ask direct questions about its condition
  • Ensure any assurances are recorded in writing

Understanding your rights upfront can help you avoid costly mistakes—and give you confidence in your decisions.

Membership Update

Legal Policy Premium Adjustments

From 1 July 2026, your monthly premium will increase.

We understand that any change to your premium matters and we want to be open about why this adjustment is necessary.

Over time, the cost of legal services continues to increase. This includes attorney fees, court-related expenses and the cost of maintaining a strong and reliable network of legal professionals across Botswana. To ensure that you continue to receive consistent, high-quality legal support, we need to make careful adjustments like this from time to time.

What this means for you is simple.

You will continue to have access to affordable legal advice, professional representation and ongoing support when you need it most. These are the services that make a real difference when something goes wrong—and they are the reason LegalWise Botswana exists.

We’ve worked hard to keep this increase as low as possible, while still maintaining the level of service you rely on.
